The American Lighting Association has various committees in place to help guide the association. The committees, which are led by member volunteers with the assistance of association staff play a key role in creating programming and ensuring the association is serving member needs.
In accordance with the ALA Bylaws, the association maintains and accepts member volunteers for the following standing committees:

- Product Data Standard Committee
- Finance Committee
- Consumer Marketing Committee
- Emerging Leaders in Lighting Committee
- Women in Lighting Committee
- Technology & Engineering Committee
- Industry Advocacy Committee
- Education Committee
- Certification Committee
- Membership Engagement Committee
