If the idea of making décor and lighting updates is frightening, not to worry. Here are a few easy tips to make your home more welcoming for trick-or-treaters as well as holiday guests.
Well-placed porch and landscape lighting is the first thing visitors see, so it goes without saying that you want your home’s façade to look its best. However, it’s when visitors step inside that you really want your home to shine. An easy way to create holiday ambiance is by featuring an entry display of seasonal flowers or décor surrounding two or three mini lanterns illuminated either by battery-operated lights or candles. Warm up a corner or holiday feature with a floor or table lamp. For a cozy feel, be sure the lamp uses a bulb with a warm color (2700 or 3000 K).
 Create a festive scene with a holiday runner or seasonal foilage down the center of a dining table. On the kitchen island group decorative items such as mini pumpkins and gourds with leaves and branches. Take it one step further by placing a string or two of battery-operated fairy lights throughout the scene. In a dormant space or unused fireplace, arrange various sizes of candles in metalic votive holders, or for added drama, plan a monotone look. As a finishing touch, trim the overhead lighting fixture with metallic or crystal beads for cheery shimmer and seasonal glow.
