Fixtures like the one you have are now mostly obsolete. Fluorescent lighting has been replaced to a large extent by LED fixtures. Most of today’s LED fixtures for surface mounting applications are typically much smaller than the fixture currently in your kitchen. Therefore, if you replace your existing fixture with a smaller fixture you will need to do some painting and or repair.
We suggest you take the measurements and a photo of your fixture to an ALA-member showrooms in your area to get the most appropriate replacement. Typically, a four-foot fluorescent light bulb used in residential applications produces about 2200-2400 lumens. Therefore, if your fixture uses four bulbs, then your total lumen output is in the range of 8,800 to 9,600 lumens. LED fixtures are rated by their lumen output, and based on the information above, you would need a fixture with at least 8,800 lumens.
