It's renovation season.

The new year is a great time to think about a new look for your home. Splurge on focal-point fixtures. They set the tone for your room and your home. If you are making just one change, focus on the light.

COMFORT

ZONE

Stay true to your personal style.

Your choice of style and fixtures is a reflection of you. While the latest trends should be considered, it is important to always stay true to your own personal preferences and comfort zone.

A visit to an ALA-member showroom to see the many types and styles of lights available will help define your style. Once you focus on what you like, and talk to a lighting expert about what will work in your existing space, choosing the perfect lighting will be easy.

If your favorite fixture is too small for your space, try hanging it in multiples of two, three or more. Sometimes a collage of orbs or a trio of pendants hung in a space usually reserved for a larger fixture is the perfect way to complement a room.

Pendants have the ability to fit in just about any place, such as a reading nook or alongside a bed. Visit an ALA-member showroom for great ideas about how to light your home.

EXPERT

ADVICE

Ask a lighting professional.

What are the requirements for installing a chandelier above a bathtub?        -Emma D.

It is only safe to place a chandelier above a bathtub if the bottom part of the chandelier is 8 feet or morabove the water line or the rim of the tub. This is a requirement of the National Electrical Code. Talk to a lighting expert at an ALA-member showroom to make sure your fixtures are safe and up to code.
