The perfect fixture, or grouping of fixtures, is more than a light source. Not only a focal point, it sets the tone of a space, and much like an objet d’art, provides a special aesthetic element. While the lighting is often one of various design elements, in the right space, spectacular fixtures can be more impressive and awe inspiring than an assortment of pictures or other decorative pieces.

Now that spring has arrived, it may be time to expand your home's living and entertainment space with an outdoor living room. The latest weather-resistant, outdoor-rated fixtures include eye-catching pendants, chandeliers, and wall lanterns.
Find outdoor lighting design advice in the 2021 issue of Lighting magazine. For example, to achieve good lighting, consider the view from the outside as well as the inside. When placing outdoor fixtures be sure to create safe pathways and the right level of illumination for the area's activities. Position fixtures to shield windows from glare for pleasing nighttime ambience.
